Castor Canadensis: Arboreous
2008

durational performance
Banff Centre for the Arts

Castor Canadensis: Arboreous is the first of the Castor Canadensis series, and was carried out at the Banff Centre for the Arts in January 2008.  It took the form of a durational performance action centered around a forty foot tree near a public path through the woods. Over the ocrse of several days I encased the tree in beaver pelts and skinned it. Having begun with research at the Hudson Bay Company Archives in Winnipeg, the Castro Canadensis series continues my engagement with aspects of Canadian identity, history and nationhood in relation to the interconnected Colonial and settler histories.
